The pictures in the slide show were taken today in Kibera Slum:
#1 An aerial view of the entire area
#2 The only filtered water I know of in Kibera slum- almost a million people!
#3 A foreign missions group put in the large water filtration system a couple years ago- people stand on that cement platform to wash their clothes, bathe their kids and bring drinking water back to their huts.
#4 The old bridge that used to connect Alex's school (Kidstar) with the Kibera slum washed away in a storm, which is good because it was very dangerous! The new bridge to the right in the picture was long coming but much better! You can see that their only stream through Kibera has not gotten any cleaner...
#5 A walk from Graceland pre-school to Kidstar still is a challenge- although they drove people out of their homes to make some paths wide enough for an asphalt road in the last year...
#6 This is one of the new asphalt roads, although covered with dirt now...
#7 Juan Carlos was great with people in the slum
Tomorrow I will share pictures from some of the schools we support in Kibera...
I resonate with Anita’s comments. It’s so easy for me to hear desperate stories but then let time pass without acting (and memory). But pictures change the equation. It’s real, and God calls me to help.
So glad to see Jerry and Juan Carlos bringing new hope and love this poor area. BUT from the pictures you can see new improvements. So thankful for them
I am deeply grateful we partner with them to bring lunches to the children. Praying it will feed them all. Marilyn.
A picture tells a story...these pictures tell a million stories. A million stories about REAL poverty. I am so profoundly glad that Jesus walks among these people. HE and He alone can give these people hope. I can't imagine living like this without the promises of the Heavenly Father. Have a Holy Spirit filled time with our family there. Much love, my friend - anita
