The following is a letter from our dear brother Enos Mutoka, who serves as our leader in Kenya for work projects there as well as our feeding program in three schools- Amson School in the Mathare slum, Graceland in the Kibera slum and the large Bukara school in the Kisumu region. God in His mercy has provided money to continue our feeding program for the next several months but things have become even more desparate for the many dear African families around these schools. We are so grateful to God for the tremendous privilege we have of caring for so many children but our work is not done yet! I hope that as I leave for Ukraine, you will continue to pray with me for the needs in those areas of Kenya that God has called us to serve! Our Great God always has a plan, and He is waiting for those who are ready to follow- ready to be His Light, His hands and His feet to a desparate World... Matthew 25:40
Dear Dad,
Always a pleasure hearing from you. Sorry for the delayed response and yes I received the funds and distributed as is required. Over the last few weeks, I have been very emotional and quite disturbed. I've been on the campaign trail and life is very hard in the village at the moment. I am on the campaign trail yes but there are homes I get into and you just see the prevailing situation and you are filled with tears. Hunger is everywhere, hopelessness is the order of the day in most homes. And now it's even getting worse with the gas shortage in the gas stations around the country. Foodstuff prices continue skyrocketing each day. To make matters worse, many people just planted a few weeks ago and now the corn fields have been invaded by army worms which are clearing the fields at an astonishing speed. We are glaring at a hunger situation that has never been witnessed before. Life is just unbearable for many here. Please pray with me that the situation urgently changes and that we find a solution to help the elderly here with some meals. You go to a house trying to bring them a message of hope and the old ladies tell you they aren't sure if they'll reach August with the hunger pangs. You feel them and give whatever you have but it's just not enough to help the many families that are going through this hard times. Prayers are needed.
The feeding program is ongoing so well and at least the kids at Bukura Primary are cushioned from the craziness of the starvation surrounding the village. The well is doing well and we are harvesting the 1st acre that we planted kale and sharing with neighbours. We will be doing tomatoes in the next one month. Our pump is a slow one so our water flow isn't to it's optimum. We are in prayers with our Ukranian friends and I know they will be so happy to see you join them at such a time like this. We pray for God's protection over you. I hope your friend dealt with the emergency successfully and that God's name remained powerful in the situation. He is to be praised. We are well as a family and still love the Lord. Have a great day ahead.
Dear Enos,
I am a member of Jerry’s congregation. It is hard to read your words of such painful difficulties.
I am learning how to pray. I know it’s wrong to tell God how to fix the needs of hungry people, crops devastated by pests, and rising prices of fuel and food. But I have a little bit of faith, and so I know that the Spirit will translate my (and our) requests. And I am asking how I might help.
Hi Enos - you are such a dear, sweet man of God. I can't imagine having to see what you see everyday and still have the will to continue serving those who are starving around you. It's human nature to run from unpleasant sites and situations but you continue to confront it. God has given you the heart of a lion, my friend. I will continue to pray for you, your loved ones, the children in the feeding program and your countrymen. I pray that your heart is always soft, your will is always strong to serve and that God's Grace shines upon you every day. Much Love - anita
