We had the opportunity to visit the farm in Bukura village where Esther lives and takes care of both animals and crops. Enos has been leasing this farm since 2013. Currently 12 acres are being farmed. He purchased 1 acre where there is a home for Esther and the animals.
We spend some quality time with her as well as watching the beautiful cows, chicken, and geese.
We walked the farm, and saw where they had planted corn for the second harvesting season. Hired help were weeding small fields of ground nuts and a kale garden section. Some crops will be used to feed animals and others will be sold. The farm currently supports 32 widows in the community who also get a share of the harvested corn and beans twice each year.
In 2018, the church supported the drilling of the borehole (similar to a well) on the farm, however the pump broke some time ago. This has greatly affected the success of the farm because the crops need watering through dry days.
Enos hopes the farm can become a stable sustaining system and move into profitability.
It was so good to see Esther as well!
You may remember we heard she had a stroke. She is greatly recovered! She so kindly cooked us a delicious meal and walked us around the farm, introducing us to her favorite cows.
Enos has a generous, community-focused heart. Jesus urges us to love our neighbors — Enos is doing this, five bags full. I will pray for the pump.
