About 20 years ago we started working with a wonderful couple in Kiev who were the joint heads of the medical school there. They were both doctors and he, Dr. Alexander, became the European outstanding physician of the year. They had three young children- Maxim, Ludmila and Lev who, along with their parents, used all their's vacations growing up to serve at children's and handicap summer camps! On many weekends and holidays they traveled all over Ukraine to villages that had never even seen a doctor before. Drs. Alexander and Marianne never owned a car, so we teamed up with them to provide transportation, medical supplies, equipment and food. Maxim is now a famous plastic surgeon, Luda is also a physician and has been the head of the medical College in Kiev, and Lev, a physician, is the European representative for Countries throughout the former Soviet Union minus Russia. They all love Jesus passionately! They have decided to stay, despite the shelling, in the Capitol city of Kiev. Right now, they are caring for refugees as well as wounded and dying soldiers. My heart is full of pride and thankfulness for their courage, skill and love for Christ!
Lev is the tall dark haired young man on the left and Max is on the right in a hat and green sweatshirt with the yellow Ukrainian arm band. They are so grateful for your support and prayers! I am grateful too, for each of you! Despite risking their lives daily, they are full of joy in the Lord and thrilled to be serving those who are in the most desperate situations imaginable! Here is his latest letter:
Shalom brother Jerry,
Many thanks to your family, your friends, and you for your support in Christ. We accept God's mercy and trust in our Lord. I always pass your prayers and love to my family and my friends. Now we are actively working in the hospital and helping all people. In these days, especially people, need spiritual and psychological support. We communicate together, calm people, and pray together. Critically necessary now for temporarily displaced people and the victims is medicine and food, which is what we provide to all those in need. My family and I know that God has a plan for us to be in this place now and be able to spiritually and physically help those in need. Through your help, we show God's love and give hope. And I am more than sure that we will be able to serve our God together with you in many different missions. We are all safe in faith in Christ. In His love, Lev
as I think of all of you there, being shot at and bombed, I wonder if I would show such bravery and faith. I don't know if I could. I pray that I would but I don't think a peron truly knows until they are right in the middle of it. Tribulation is the act that test the spirit and the moral character of a person and you wonderul people are full to the brim with both. Our friends in Ukraine and Russia are the very image of people covered in the armour of the Lord. I admire and envy their resolute faith. I continue to pray for you all and as a humble observer, I can only say that you are the example of faith, bravery, love, kindness and humanity that we all should aspire to be. May His Peace and Grace shine on you...always.
