The vision for the Mexico Ministry began as a way to take a group from our church to do a week long service ministry, building a house for a low-income family in Tecaté, Mexico and nurturing relationships within our body of Believers. Getting out of our regular routine and environment and into another culture we are able to get a fresh perspective on serving not only internationally but locally as well.
The first year, June of 2017, the JCSL Mexico team joined Shoreline Christian School’s 8th grade class on their missionary trip/house build. The school was short on people going and JCSL sent 9 people. We developed a relationship with the Rancho de los Palomas, the ministry that facilitates the house build ministry, and made tentative plans to take a group from JCSL in 2018 to build another house.
The start was in spurts and stops but eventually we put a team of 20 people of various ages and abilities together along with the necessary funds to build another house.
In April of 2018, the weather was unusually hot and the house build site was on a steep slope. It wore out our team of builders. The build was physically, spiritually and relationally challenging but we accomplished the goal. The house was built, the family was happy and we grew closer together as a team. The Lord provided for our every need. We were especially thankful that the pool at the ranch was open as it was scheduled to be closed during our stay.
In April of 2019, a team of 5 went to nurture the relationships we began the previous year during the house build. We are seeking the Lord’s will for this ministry and how we are to move forward with relationships we have built with the Ranch, the house build family and the locals we met there in Tecaté.
